The BCA (Billiard Congress of America) (think of them as you might the PGA for golf) has recently begun "certifying" instructors for pool and other billiard games. Instructors are trained, tested, and then certified at the Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced levels. In addition, some excel in a certain discipline such as 9-ball, Snooker, or 3-cushion billiards.
